Coffee Giant Starbucks has recently changed its iconic logo. Instead of baring the company name, the logo is now just an image of the infamous twin-tailed Siren. However, this isn’t the first logo change for the company.

In 1971 the logo was brown and featured a very different image of the Siren. By 1987 the famous Starbucks green and black colour scheme was introduced, and the logo we all associate with the company came into circulation in 1992.

This got everyone at Bird and Co thinking. Some of the most recognisable brands use image logos – they have become so well known their name just isn’t needed anymore. (Photo credit: (link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jels/5553209043/ text: JessSanson))

This one is pretty self explanatory. Everyone knows the Nike logo, so much so they don’t even need to include their name on products anymore. The famous ‘tick’ has adorned everything from clothing and shoes to the backs of peoples’ heads!

Disney’s ‘Mickey Mouse’ image logo will forever be reminiscent of the company. Even grown up kids recognise the famous logo. While the image itself is enough, Disney’s custom font on the text logo is also as effective.

Pepsi’s red and white circular logo is another example of instant brand recognition. The name ‘Pepsi’ just isn’t needed on drinks cans anymore – the image is enough. The company’s colours of blue, red and white are also enough to remind people of the brand.

**7. XBox**

Car manufacture VW is another company to use a simple, but effective picture based logo. This logo is effective in its trademark blue and white colours, or as a plain silver motif on a vehicle. Like most car manufactures, a picture really does tell a 1,000 words.

**9. Twitter**

Most of us recognise this logo. The blue Twitter bird is fast replacing the trademark ‘T’ as the company’s logo. It is simple, effective and memorable – everything you want in a logo.

**10. Bacardi**

Finally, Bacardi’s famous bat is another great example of an image based logo. The striking colour combination of red and black works really well, making the picture work perfectly as a standalone logo.

And of course there’s our Percy! Our bright green pelican certainly stands out from the crowd!
