The path to success isn’t always an easy one, but when there’s bumps in the road a little guidance can go a long way.
Once upon a time we were all at the start of our careers, full of promise and ambition as we set off on the long journey up the career ladder. The lucky ones amongst us were fortunate enough to have received plenty of advice from the wiser and more experienced people in our lives.
From the cliché to the downright cheesy, career advice can sometimes sound like one of The Apprentice try-hards who profess to being the “reflection of perfection”, or something along those lines anyway.
But the right piece of advice can really stick with you. Here’s some of the best advice our Dreamers have received from their mentors and colleagues over the years…
*Nothing is ever as bad as you think it’s going to be (mind you, nothing is ever as good either!)*
** – Jason, Managing Director**
*Treat everyone the same, from an apprentice to the MD.*
** – Mark, Account Director**
*Always be a swan – stay calm on the surface and paddling like mad below.*
** – Laura, Senior PR Account Executive**
*Customer is king, the answer is always yes but it’s fine to challenge the question.*
** – Lyn, Senior Account Manager**
*Don’t take things personally!*
** – Gladys, Client Services Director**
*In a meeting with a lot of people sitting around the table, draw the table and put their names in so you can address them by name and know who’s who.*
** – Gary, Digital Account Manager**
*Do what you love and you’ll love what you do.*
** – Lucy, Account Executive**
*Honesty is the best policy!*
** – Amy, Account Manager**
*Team work makes the dream work.*
** – Suzi, Social Media Executive**
*Be the first to break the ice, you’ll make those around you feel more relaxed too.*
** – Dawn, Senior Account Executive**
*Wear a bright colour to interviews so that the panel can remember which one you were.*
** – Jayne, Senior Inbound Marketing Specialist**
