Twitter has announced that there will be major changes happening to its account profile pages over the next few weeks. We can look forward to the gradual roll out of a fresh new look, with improved visual elements and more of an emphasis on images; similar to rival platforms Facebook and Google+.
Many of the changes are still being tested and haven’t been updated across every profile yet, but as marketeers, we will have to adapt our approach and content for Twitter to make the most of the new layout. So, what can we expect?
**Pinned tweets**
The re-vamp will allow users to choose a tweet to ‘pin’ to the top of their page, much like LinkedIn and Facebook. The number of characters you’re allowed in your Twitter bio is quite limiting, so this is a useful opportunity to further highlight any offers, services or vacancies.
**Photos in tweets**
Users will now be able to tag up to 10 people in a photo, and a single tweet can include multiple images. Your most popular or interacted with tweets will also appear in a larger font than the less popular ones.
Interaction via pictures and infographics, as we see on other social media platforms at the moment, is sure to increase. It’s time for you to create even more shareable, valuable visual content. These changes will initially be visible to users on the iPhone app, rolling out later to web and android users.
**Header photos**
The new header size is 1500 X 500 pixels, larger than the previous 1252 x 500px. Background images are on their way out, so instead concentrate on updating the visual element of your profile with tweeted images and a new, engaging re-sized header photo.
**Favourites**
The ‘favourites’ function will now be better positioned on your profile page and can be used more effectively. Demonstrate your brands personality through this feature – show the world what your brand is about and whose ideas you respect and have an interest in.
